This vanilla bean-bourbon soda harkens back to an old-fashioned soda fountain: delicious syrup (made with real sugar, not corn syrup) mixed with soda. Even better? It has bourbon in it! To serve, mix one part syrup with two parts soda over ice. Add a squeeze of orange juice and garnish with the orange wedge.

Ingredients for 3

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup water

  • ½ cup bourbon

  • 6 vanilla beans, split

  • Club soda, for serving

  • Orange wedges, for serving

Directions

  • Step 1

    Set the Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker to 135°F (57°C).

  • Step 2

    Combine the sugar, water, bourbon, and vanilla in a large zipper lock bag. Seal the bag using the water immersion technique. Place the bag in the water bath and set the timer for 2 hours. Halfway through cooking, mix the contents of the bag to ensure that the sugar has dissolved.

      When the timer goes off, remove the bag from the water bath. Strain the contents of the bag through a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl. Transfer to a storage bottle and refrigerate overnight before serving. To serve, mix one part syrup and two parts soda water in a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with an orange wedge.
