Anova Cooler Modification
My cooler mod is for the Anova Precision Cooker.
This cooler modification is so easy and takes just a few minutes. Cooking in a sealed cooler is the most energy efficient way to run a Sous Vide circulator. I used a gizmo called the Kill a watt to check how much money it actually costs to run in a sealed cooler. With my Anova set at 165 running for 24 hours, the energy consumption turned out to be pennies.
The best part about cooking in a cooler is there isn’t any evaporation in a long cook. The cooler also muffles any circulating noise.

Ingredients
- An old cooler
- Cordless drill
- Pilot drill bit and a 2 ½” hole saw from Harbor Freight
- File or sandpaper
Directions
- Set your Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker to 80ºF / 26.7ºC
- Mark exactly where you would like the Anova sit on the cooler lid, remember the thickness of the cooler walls. Off to the side is best. Drill a pilot hole.
- Now drill slowly with the hole saw.
- Sand any burs or rough spots.
- As you can see the Anova Precision Cooker fits in perfectly with just the right amount of play to get it in and out.
- No need to seal as the little plastic flange on the Anova Precision Cooker covers the gap.
- It took 5 minutes to get up and running!
